Treating employees well isn't just about respect and dignity-- which should absolutely be part of your culture-- but also whether there are development and growth opportunities, whether they can thrive even if their top priority remains on life outside of work (there are PLENTY of star employees who come in, do their job, go home).
You will get what you give, and most companies are perfectly comfortable getting the bare minimum-- and that's fine. But just a little bit goes a very long way when it comes to employee performance...
